Robinhood Tax Documents — When They Arrive, Where to Find Them, How to Import

You open the Robinhood app in late January expecting a tax form and find an empty Tax Center. You check again in February and now there are three documents, two of which you don't recognize. You import one into TurboTax, the other two get forgotten, and in eighteen months the IRS sends a letter about the ones you skipped.

Robinhood's tax documents are simple in structure and easy to get wrong in practice, mostly because a single Robinhood user can generate forms from three or four separate legal entities. This guide covers when each document arrives, where to find it, why there's more than one, and how to import them without losing half your transactions.

Document Typical availability Who gets it
Consolidated 1099 (Robinhood Securities) Mid-February Anyone who sold stocks or ETFs, or received dividends or interest
1099-DA (Robinhood Crypto) Mid-February Anyone who sold or swapped crypto
1099-R (Robinhood Retirement) Late January IRA distributions
1099-MISC Late January to mid-February Referral stock, promotions, and certain rewards
Corrected 1099s March onward Accounts affected by issuer reclassification
Form 5498 Late May IRA contributions — informational only

Robinhood typically posts consolidated 1099s close to the February 15 deadline rather than early. If you're a January filer, you're waiting regardless. Robinhood emails and push-notifies when your documents are ready.

Why You Get More Than One Form

The main source of confusion. Robinhood is not one company for tax purposes:

  • Robinhood Securities LLC issues your consolidated 1099 for stocks, ETFs, and options.
  • Robinhood Crypto LLC issues a separate form for digital assets. Beginning with 2025 transactions this is a 1099-DA rather than the 1099-B-style form crypto users saw previously — see our guide to what Form 1099-DA is for what changed.
  • Robinhood Money / Robinhood Markets may issue a 1099-MISC for referral rewards, promotional stock, or Gold-related credits.
  • Robinhood Retirement issues 1099-R and 5498 for IRA activity.

Each is a distinct document with its own Document ID, and each imports separately into tax software. Importing the securities 1099 and stopping there is the single most common Robinhood filing error, because the crypto form is the one people forget and it's the one the IRS now receives independently.

Where to Find Your Robinhood Tax Documents

In the app:

  1. Tap the Account icon (bottom right)
  2. Tap the menu, then Tax Center
  3. Your available forms are listed by tax year and entity
  4. Tap a document to view, then use the share icon to export the PDF

On the web:

  1. Log in at robinhood.com
  2. Click your account, then Settings, then Tax Center — or go straight to robinhood.com/account/documents
  3. Filter by Tax Documents and select the year

The Tax Center also offers a CSV export of your 1099 data alongside the PDF. That CSV is genuinely useful for high-volume accounts, though it needs reformatting before most tax software will accept it — see the TaxAct CSV format requirements for what a compliant layout looks like.

Write down the Document ID. It's an 11-character alphanumeric code on the first page of each 1099, and every third-party import asks for it.

What's on the Robinhood Consolidated 1099

The consolidated form bundles several IRS forms into one PDF:

  • 1099-B — every stock, ETF, and options sale with proceeds, cost basis, dates, and wash sale adjustments. This becomes your Form 8949 and Schedule D.
  • 1099-DIV — dividends, including any from fractional shares
  • 1099-INT — interest, including cash sweep and Gold interest
  • 1099-MISC — promotional and referral income

Options are included in the 1099-B section, and they're where Robinhood returns most often go wrong. Expired contracts, assignments, and exercises are each reported differently, and the descriptions Robinhood uses are terse. Our guide to expired, assigned, and exercised options on a 1099-B covers how to read them.

Wash sales are unusually common on Robinhood accounts. Frequent trading in the same handful of tickers is exactly the pattern that triggers the rule, and the disallowed amounts show up in the adjustment column. If you sold a position entirely and still see wash sale adjustments, our explainer on wash sales when you sold all your shares covers why that happens and when the loss comes back.

How to Import Robinhood Tax Documents

TurboTax. Search for Robinhood in the investment income section. You'll be asked for:

  • Account number — your 11-character Robinhood account number, not your username
  • Document ID — the 11-character code from the top of the 1099 PDF

Enter them exactly as printed, including case. This is the most frequent failure point: people type the account number from the wrong entity's form, or transpose an O and a 0.

Import each entity separately. Run the flow once for Robinhood Securities and again for Robinhood Crypto. TurboTax treats them as different brokers.

Where import fails:

  • Transaction volume. Active Robinhood traders routinely exceed 1,000 rows, and imports stall or truncate above that. See handling a large 1099-B.
  • Timing. Attempting the import before Robinhood finishes generating the form returns an error that looks like a credential problem.
  • Corrected forms. The Document ID changes on a corrected 1099, so the old one stops working.

Our dedicated guide covers the full sequence when Robinhood 1099-B import isn't working.

TaxAct. Robinhood is one of the better-supported brokers here, and there's a complete walkthrough in our guide to importing a Robinhood 1099-B into TaxAct.

H&R Block and FreeTaxUSA. Generally CSV upload or manual entry. See the H&R Block CSV import guide and the FreeTaxUSA walkthrough.

Late, Missing, or Corrected Forms

Tax Center is empty in February. Robinhood posts near the deadline. If nothing appears by February 16, check that you're looking at the right tax year and that your account isn't restricted.

You only see one form and expected two. Scroll the full Tax Center list — crypto and securities documents appear as separate entries, sometimes below the fold.

No 1099 at all. Robinhood doesn't issue a consolidated 1099 if your reportable activity falls below the reporting thresholds and you had no sales. You still report any gains you had.

A corrected 1099 arrives in March. This is common with Robinhood. Compare it to the original; if a 1099-B figure changed, you amend with Form 1040-X. If you already imported the original, note that re-importing can wipe out your entered data.

You transferred out to another broker. You'll get a partial-year 1099 from Robinhood and another from the new broker, and transferred positions often arrive with missing cost basis.

FAQ

When does Robinhood release tax documents?

Consolidated 1099s post around mid-February, close to the February 15 deadline. 1099-R and 1099-MISC forms typically arrive in late January.

Why do I have two Robinhood 1099s?

Robinhood Securities and Robinhood Crypto are separate legal entities that issue separate forms. Both must be reported, and each imports separately into tax software.

Where is my Robinhood Document ID?

On the first page of the 1099 PDF, near your account number. It's 11 characters and required for every third-party import.

Does Robinhood report to the IRS?

Yes. Every form Robinhood sends you is also filed with the IRS, including the crypto form. Automated matching compares your return against those filings.

Can I get a Robinhood 1099 CSV?

Yes, the Tax Center offers a CSV export alongside the PDF. It usually needs column reformatting before tax software will accept it.

Why does Robinhood show wash sales when I closed the position?

Because the disallowed loss is triggered by repurchasing within 30 days, not by whether you currently hold the stock. If you fully closed out and stayed out for 31 days, the disallowed amount is added back to the basis of the replacement shares.

How do I get a Robinhood tax document after closing my account?

Log in with your existing credentials — document access remains after closure. If you can't log in, contact Robinhood support to request copies.

Bottom Line

Robinhood's tax documents arrive later than most brokers and come in more pieces than most users expect. The two failures that actually cost money are missing the crypto form entirely and hitting an import wall on transaction volume.

Check the Tax Center for every entity, note each Document ID, import them one at a time, and if you're an active trader plan on a file-based approach rather than a direct connection.
